Take Action

It’s Your Land.

Welcome to the Take Action section of our website. This section provides you with suggestions of how to better protect the land, water, and air of the Richland Natural Area. Whether you live close to the RNA or visit it, you have a voice to advocate for it.

Sedimentation
The Richland Initiative has been keeping an eye on the Hamptons at Umstead development off of Ebenezer Church Road. Due to our efforts, the City of Raleigh has found the site in violation of sediment control policies. Visit the site and inform us of concerns.
Safety
Make the RNA safer! Click Here to sign a petition advocating for lower speed limits on Reedy Creek and Trenton Roads.

No Parking
The NC Department of Transportation has banned parking on Graylyn Road, which effectively limits citizens' access to Umstead State Park.

[Title + Person],
I am writing to express to you the importance and value of the Richland Natural Area (RNA) in western Wake County. The RNA comprises over 6,000 acres including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural Sciences’ Prairie Ridge Ecostation, Schenck Memorial Forest, North Carolina State University’s Equine Educational Unit, and Umstead State Park. These lands are host to many North Carolinians who enjoy hiking, biking, running, fishing, boating, camping, and horseback riding. Wild streams flow through this land. Lush pine and hardwood forests provide refuge for turtle, deer, and fox. Additionally, the NCSU Equine Educational Unit preserves our state heritage. It is important that these lands continue to be protected if we are to continue to enjoy these natural and recreational resources—resources that make our community healthy. It is my sincere hope that the importance of and value of the Richland Natural Area will be kept in mind when making important policy decisions affecting the region.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Litter
Unfortunately, litter is a problem in the Richland Natural Area. Litter is most often found along Edwards Mill Road.
