From
its headwaters in Cary, Reedy Creek empties into Reedy
Creek Lake in the southeastern portion of Umstead State
Park. During the hot summer days, young campers at the
City of Raleigh’s Camp Ranoca plunge into the
refreshing waters and canoe the generously wide creek.
In fall, crimson leaves adorn the stream bank. Winter
snowfall blankets the area. In spring, wildflowers dot
the swiftly moving stream. From the lake, Reedy
Creek unites
with Crabtree Creek, eventually making its way to the
Neuse River.
Reedy Creek links the Richland Natural Area (RNA) with
outside developments and businesses. The upstream activities
of construction and industry have the potential to introduce
pollutants and sediments that these young campers and
fishermen will come into contact with. The quality of
the RNA is dependent upon the protection of Reedy Creek
and the other streams.
