Raleigh Greenway Trail System Overview

In between Raleigh’s neighborhoods and among its oak-filled parks rests a 3,000 acre, 46 mile network of paved, gravel, and dirt trails. The Raleigh Greenway Trail System allows the city’s residents to conveniently access city parks and offers an alternative to motorized transportation. The paths are filled with young children, bikers, and those admiring the city’s outdoors.

Loblolly Trail

In between the towering pines and along Reedy Creek, Richland Creek, and Richland Lake, the City of Raleigh’s Loblolly Trail reveals the intimate parts of Umstead State Park and Schenck Forest. This dirt greenway connects the RBC Center with the Harrison Avenue Entrance of Umstead. The trail takes the adventurous along forestry demonstration areas, over bubbling streams, and to the tops of beautiful summits.

Reedy Creek Greenway

The Greenway System is expanding to places it has never been before -- the Richland Natural Area. The paved Reedy Creek Greenway begins at the corner of Faircloth and Hillsborough Streets, connecting Meredith College and the Art Museum with Umstead State Park at the Reedy Creek Road and Trenton Road entrance. The greenway allows an increased number of visitors to enjoy the gently rolling NCSU Equine Educational Unit lands, Schenck Forest, and Umstead State Park. In fact, this greenway has won the Environmental Excellence Award from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for Excellence in Non-Motorized Transportation. Click here for more information.
